rickrosswifey asked: that post really bothers me; i.e., the part that states that democrats want a larger "helpful" part of the government, and a smaller "hurtful" part of the government" and republicans vice versa. i feel that statement is incredibly biased. you think republicans want a less attention/financial focus on the education system, less evaluation on the safety of food and drugs, less maintenance of our highways and bridges? what? did i take this wrong?

Republicans have been explicit about their desires in this area. They consider most things like food and safety standards to involve excessive regulation that must be cut. They have repeatedly called for the elimination of the federal Department of Education; Rick Santorum, the surging candidate for the Republican nomination for President, has questioned the appropriateness of public education as such. Many Republicans like the transportation budget since it allows them to earmark projects; however, across the board, every time you hear a Republican say something like “this shouldn’t be a federal program; it should be handled at the state level” it is important to remember that since most states have a constitutional mandate to balance their budgets, any additional programs added to state budgets will either lead the state to dramatically increase taxes or dramatically cut programs. And the only things states can cut is Medicare, education, criminal justice and pensions, since that’s what most states spend most of their money on.

So yes: that is exactly what I am saying. They want to spend much less on all of this. They just don’t want you to know it.
