A quick comparison. Poverty tends to be concentrated in more conservative states. This is by no means the whole story: rural-urban, big cities-no major cities demographic variables and other dynamics matter. But so does ideology. Don’t kid yourself. States in which conservatives make up a substantial part of the population tend to have much higher poverty rates than do states with low percentages of conservatives.
